Google announces the winners of the third edition of the Golden Review, an annual project that rewards the most appreciated locations on Google Maps. For this year’s edition, Google awarded the Golden Review to castles and fortresses from each region of the country.
For analysis, Google selected locations with a verified and up-to-date profile in Google Company Profile, from the categories of castles, palaces, fortresses and fortresses. The winner in each historical region of Romania was the most appreciated location in these categories, i.e. the one that had the highest number of reviews on Google Maps in its region and a rating of over 4.5 stars. The selection of the nine “Golden Review” winners was made following the data available on Google Maps at the time of analysis, in May 2023.

“Thousands of quality reviews can be found on Google Maps, and tourists are often inspired by them before deciding to visit a tourist attraction. Moreover, the latest AI functions in Google Maps, such as Immersive View, Eco Routes, or Google Lens, can help tourists better navigate their journey through a new city, at home or abroad, or discover exceptional historical monuments. Castles and fortresses are important tourist attractions, and we would be happy, both through the Golden Review and Google Maps, to be able to bring greater visibility to the historical monuments in Romania,” said Elisabeta Moraru, Country Director of Google Romania.
Castles and other historical objects are some of the top rated attractions rated by users on Google Maps. Thus, the Google Golden Review project set out to make visible the most appreciated historical monuments in CEE (Central and Eastern Europe) on Google Maps this year. The selection includes, in addition to Romania, other countries such as Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Croatia.
