Israel will continue the tourist campaign in Romania, aiming to reach the target of more than 100,000 Romanian tourists who will visit Israel this year.
If there were 78,900 Romanian tourists visiting Israel last year, the first four months of this year brought growing figures. Almost 40,000 Romanian tourists have visited the Holy Land from January to April, 2018 (39,900), compared to 24,300 tourists on the same period last year and to just 15,000 on the same period of 2016.
If there was a 64% rise in the number of Romanian visitors to Israel from 2017 (January-April) to 2018, the increase was of 166% as against 2016.
This was mainly due to the EUR 1 M tourist campaign ever launched by the Israeli Ministry of Tourism in Romania in October last year.
Currently, more than 60 flights per week are linking six cities of Romania to Tel Aviv: 47 weekly flights from Bucharest, five flights from Cluj-Napoca, four from Iasi, and several others from cities like Timisoara, Craiova or Oradea.
The Israeli minister of Tourism, Yariv Levin, announced during his visit to Bucharest last week that there will be a seventh city in Romania to provide direct flights to Tel Aviv as of July.
“There is no country in the world connected in such way to Israel,” the minister stated, also adding the tourist campaign in Romania was a huge success.
„Romania is a major market for us; for the first time we had a large campaign in Romania to promote destinations from Israel, the success is huge. The rise continues, in the first four months of this year we had 40,000 Romanian tourists visiting Israel. We’ll continue to work hard and we aim at more than 100,000 Romanian tourists coming to Israel,” Yariv Levin pointed out.
He also reminded that the 3 millionth tourist to Israel last year was a Romanian.
Ioana Isac from Romania was the three millionth tourist who landed in Israel this year, a new all-time record for incoming tourism in the Holy Land. The event happened at Ben Gurion airport on November 7, 2017.
In his turn, Ami Allon, director for Central and Eastern Europe at Israel Ministry of Tourism, said that the 60pc increase of tourists from Romania to Israel is a unique figure in Europe and that’s why Romania’s market has huge potential for Israel.
Israel’s tourist campaign in Romania focused on promoting Tel Aviv and Jerusalem as two travel destinations in one city break package.
