The medieval churches in Târgoviste dating back in the 17th -18th centuries will be promoted with European funds of EUR 200,000 by the local authorities, Târgoviste City Hall informed on Thursday during the presentation press conference.
Six churches will be promoted within the project: Târgului Church, Saint Dumitru Buzinca Church, Saints Constatin and Elena Church, Stolnicu Church, St. Atanasie and Chiril Church and St. Nicolae Simuleasa Church.
“Stolnicu Church/High Steward- the first church in this location was build in wood by Udrea Bratescu, probably in the 17th century, but it was High Steward Constantin Cantacuzino with his wife who built the stone church in 1705, having Saint Stephen as titular saint. It was actually a chapel of their manorial court in Targoviste,” read the presentation papers.
Târgului Church/ Bourg Church certifies it used to belong to merchants and craftsmen once. Located in the heart of the city’s old center, it has the Assumption titular saint. The church was erected on the location of an older church dating in the 16th century, which was build by the humanist scholar Udriste Nasturel.
The project is promoted by a webiste, photo folders and albums, enchiridions.
