Romanian festivals are an emerging top hit – who’s visiting?

Romania is steadily coming into its own as a festival destination for the summer, with some of the most exciting music coming to its two major cities, Bucharest and Cluj-Napoca, year after year, bringing an ever more diverse crowd with them. A local travel-tech company, had a look at who visited Romania during this summer’s festival season.

Starting in July, Romania has had a bustling festival scene that’s growing larger and more popular every year. From Cluj-Napoca’s Electric Castle and Untold, to Bucharest’s Saga Festival and Summer Well, there has been a stage for every taste, and travelers worldwide are getting a taste as well.

According to a survey conducted by Stem/MARK earlier this year, going to cultural activities and concerts was the main reason for travels especially for Spaniards (16%), followed by travelers from Slovakia (10%), Czechs (9%), Hungarians (7%), 5% of Poles and 6% of Romanians.

As for the flights at Henri Coandă Airport in Bucharest and Cluj Napoca’s Avram Iancu Airport, and shares what they found, most travelers arrived from airports in London, Madrid, Brussels, Paris, Vienna, Milan, Rome and Barcelona.

However, when it comes to nationalities visiting the two cities, most travelers are French, Spanish, Americans, British, Italian, Bulgarian, Moldovan, German and Portuguese.

On average, travelers spent 11 days in Romania, the same as last year. However, they booked their trips on shorter notice, 28 days before their departure date, on average, compared to 34 days in advance last year.

On average, they paid 184 euros for their tickets, but way more valuable was their experience at Romania’s summer festivals.
