Romanian Travel Trends 2025: Rising Destinations & Costs

With 2025 already underway, Romanian travelers are making bold travel choices. A travel-tech company analyzed this year’s booking data, revealing notable shifts in preferences.

While Italy, the UK, Spain, and France remain the top destinations, as in previous years, new trends are emerging. Bookings show a surge in interest for Malta (+63.76%), Moldova (+56.72%), Egypt (+45.71%), and Hungary (+38.24%), making them the fastest-growing destinations for 2025.

Malmo

Trending cities have also seen significant increases in popularity. Marseille, France, experienced a 270% surge in bookings, followed by Malmö, Sweden (+148%), and Palermo, Italy (+88%). Greek islands such as Paphos, Chania, and Corfu are also seeing a notable rise in interest, likely becoming top choices for Romanian tourists seeking a Mediterranean escape this summer.

Bucharest remains Romania’s main departure hub, with the busiest routes being Bucharest-London, Bucharest-Milan, and Bucharest-Paris—classic destinations that continue to attract travelers year-round.

In 2025, Romanians are spending slightly more on flights, with the average ticket price rising to €133.89 from €123.58 last year. Short-haul flights now cost an average of €100.17, while medium-haul journeys reach €140.34. The average stay at a destination is five days, but short getaways are the most popular—63% of travelers spend just 1-3 days, 20% stay for 4-6 days, and only 1% plan trips longer than a month.

Easter Travel Boom

Spring holidays are already proving to be a busy travel period. Bookings for Easter Week have jumped by 58.6% compared to the previous week, highlighting a strong demand for holiday getaways.

As Romanian travelers continue to redefine their travel habits, 2025 is shaping up to be a year of discovery and adventure.
