Sledging is an old winter habit in Romania, highly popular among both children and adults.
During communism, when there was not much to do in the house, children would go sleighing for hours on the improvised slopes in the city, despite the ringing frost that used to seize the country winter by winter.
Sledging was also quite frequent in the countryside during winter, as the sleigh used to normally replace the carriage when heavy snowfalls made the village’s alleys impracticable.
The custom has become quite popular as a touristic tool in the past 25 years, particularly in the mountain resorts or across tourist rural destinations.
