In the first quarter of 2024, guests spent 123.7 million nights in accommodation rented through Airbnb, Booking, Expedia Group or TripAdvisor, Eurostat data shows. This corresponds to an increase of 28.3% compared to the same period in 2023.
The EU Statistics Office also made a ranking by region of the most nights of accommodation, in Romania the best placed region being Bucharest-Ilfov, which only occupies the 132nd position, far behind the most popular European regions – Andalucia in Spain ( 35.6 million nights), Jadranska Hrvatska in Croatia (32.6 million) and the French region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (24.9 million).
The number of rooms in Romania offered through Airbnb exceeded 11.3 million, according to the latest data sent to HotNews.ro by the National Institute of Statistics (INS). One out of ten Romanian tourists prefers to stay through this system, and in the case of foreign tourists, about 6% choose Airbnb.
The most rooms in the Airbnb system are in Constanța (15% of the total rooms offered through Airbnb) and Brașov (almost 15%), followed by Bucharest (9%). At the opposite pole, counties such as Olt, Teleorman, Botoșani or Ialomita have not registered any rooms in the Airbnb system.
In the top 20 regions, 6 are in Spain and France, 5 in Italy, 2 regions in Portugal and 1 in Croatia.
