The Tășuleasa Social Association has begun expanding the Via Transilvanica trail to other regions of Romania. Over the next 20 years, the organization aims to extend the internationally recognized trail across all of the country’s historical regions. The first extension segment connects 14 administrative-territorial units in Brașov County.
During an event on March 28, held in Viscri with volunteers and partners, the Tășuleasa Social Association officially launched work on the new Via Transilvanica segment: “Terra Borza Teutonica.” This section will span approximately 170 kilometers within Brașov County, linking new areas to the 1,400 kilometers already explored by hikers and cyclists from around the world.
In the coming months, activities will focus on cleaning, ecological preservation, trail marking, and documenting the new extension. The work will also include the installation of individually sculpted andesite milestones, marking each kilometer of the Via Transilvanica. These preparations have been in progress for four years.
List of administrative-territorial units in “Terra Borza Teutonica”: Bunești, Jibert, Șoarș, Ticușu, Mândra, Șercaia, Șinca, Șinca Nouă, Poiana Mărului, Zărnești, Moieciu, Bran, Râșnov, Brașov.
Via Transilvanica’s 20-Year Vision
The launch of this new segment in Viscri is part of a long-term development plan for the trail. As the Tășuleasa Social Association celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, it remains committed to expanding the Via Transilvanica to include all of Romania’s historical regions. The primary goal of this initiative is social: to revitalize local communities nationwide. The existing trail alone attracted over 30,000 hikers in 2024.
The organization is also calling on people from Romania and beyond to contribute to the project’s future. Over the past seven years, the Via Transilvanica has been developed exclusively through private funding. Anyone—individuals or companies—can support the 20-year plan through donations, sponsorships, tax redirections, or volunteer work.
Alin Ușeriu, President of Tășuleasa Social Association:
“We have put a lot of effort into this 20-year strategy, and without hesitation, we placed the first milestone for the new Brașov segment in Viscri. Over the past few years, Romania has revealed itself in ways we never imagined back in 2018 when we started Via Transilvanica. If, in just seven years, we managed to bring the trail to its current scale, imagine what we can achieve together in the next 20 years!”
