The first study in the world conducted on microorganisms inside the underground ice will be performed inside Scarisoara Glacier Cave in Alba County.
More precisely, a 13-meter core was extracted from the Scarisoara Glacier in order to be studied in the lab.
The survey aims at recomposing the climate of the past 1,000 years, based on the tests of the ice deposits. Researchers want to have evident information regarding winter and summer temperatures in this region, but also regarding the rainfalls produced here in the past millennium. Experts are also keen to discover the microorganisms living in Scarisoara Glacier and their resistance to low temperatures.
