The pilot was implemented within the framework of municipality’s 2018 Alba Iulia’s Smart City Pilot Project, part of the city’s Development and Promoting Policy.
Intrarom, the Romanian subsidiary of Intracom Telecom, announced the successful implementation of its first Smart City pilot in Alba Iulia.
The pilot was launched during the ‘’Dezbatere Nationala Smart City – Alba Iulia 2018’’ event, which was organized in cooperation with the Alba Iulia’s municipality under the framework of the Romanian centenary celebration, in order to promote and sustain constantly the smart community concept. The event recognized the involvement and efforts made by the local municipality, government bodies and companies towards the development of the Smart City community in Alba Iulia, thus making it the first initiative of its kind in Romania.
Participants of the event together with Alba Iulia’s municipality Smart City Implementation team, guests from all around the country and representatives of Intrarom, experienced a number of Smart City solutions that revolutionize Alba Iulia infrastructure.
Intrarom, for the purposes of testing offered a complete smart lighting solution that combines the efficiency of LED technology with the advantages of a multifunctional communication gateway that facilitates the interconnection with an impressive number of IoT equipment and sensors. More specifically, the solution, that was implemented by Intrarom in a parking lot in front of the Stadium in Alba Iulia, consists of a number of multi-component LED lighting pillars, which are equipped with multifunctional sensors that integrate many functionalities, such as smart parking, environmental & noise level monitoring, traffic monitoring, SOS distress signaling and free wi-fi connectivity for the surrounding area.
All the equipment and services mentioned above are managed by the Company’s Unified IoT Orchestration Platform (uiTOP) that integrates them through open APIs, providing a 360-view of all connected intelligent assets, thus enabling a complete monitoring and control of city operations & services. The platform poses no limitations or restrictions on equipment manufacturers and allows to integrate various vertical solutions, supporting multiple connectivity technologies between and with ever-expanding intelligent ecosystems.
“Some of the good ideas tested in the pilot project can already be found in the projects worth tens of millions of euros that the City Hall of Alba Iulia has submitted for financing and for which I knocked on the Management Authorities’ doors, especially the one managing the Regional Development Program, where we submitted two smart lighting projects in the main areas of the city, while the third one is in the preparation phase for funding. If all projects are approved for funding, we would have 70% of the city’s surface covered with smart lighting,” Nicolaie Moldovan, Alba Iulia’s City Manager said.
“Through this pilot deployment we are demonstrating the company’s holistic approach of the Smart City concept and providing the local community with the opportunity to test our value-added multi-functional devices. Intrarom’s Smart City offering addresses the urban environment’s critical aspects in a comprehensive way by employing a complex intelligent platform that allows the existing public lighting infrastructure to transform into an intelligent network. We look forward to contribute our offerings and expertise in the upcoming Smart Cities projects in the Romanian market”, Mr. George Roussos, CEO Intrarom added.
