Romanian tennis player Simona Halep (3rd WTA) has defeated Lesia Tsurenko (24th WTA) on Wednesday 6-2, 6-3 at the Qatar Open to climb on the 2nd position in the WTA rankings. In the next round, Halep will face Julia Georges, 9th seeded.
It was the sixth victory against Tsurenko and Simona has a record of 2-0 against Georges.
As of next week, Simona Halep will climb on the second position in the WTA rankings.
For her performance in Qatar, Simona Halep will collect 100 WTA points and USD 24,360.
After the match, Simona Halep said: “It was a very good match. It wasn’t easy, I came here from an indoor tournament. I remained focused I came from behind in the second set.”
As Karolina Pliskova has withdrawn from the tournament, Hapel needed only one win to climb on the second WTA position. She says is not interested in the rankings right now.
“The rankings are not important for the time being. I play to win every match. If I go on in a good shape, I will fight to regain the 1st WTA position,” Halep added.
