World Animal Day: Purina takes care on pet nutrition and parenting

Today we celebrate World Animal Day, a global movement to celebrate and protect animals.

On the occasion of 130 years of Purina using its nutritional expertise, together with the best specialists in the field to provide the best food for four-legged friends, the fourth Purina in Society Commitments report has been launched at European level. The report tracks the results and actions the brand has achieved on the goals set in 2016 and reinforces the commitments launched then, which target three important areas: caring for pets and the people who love them, community and planet.

Purina’s priority is always to improve the physical health and emotional well-being of pets. Over 130 years of continuous innovation and research have led to the development of unique products on the market, and in the last 6 years more than 25 new products have been launched in Europe, as well as a number of new formats and new recipes for existing products. The more than 4.3 million cats in Romania can also enjoy one of these innovations starting this year – PURINA® PRO PLAN® has launched Hydra Care™, an innovative supplement that promotes optimal hydration in cats, helping to maintain healthy kidneys and a properly functioning urinary system.

Owning a pet is one of the greatest joys as well as a great responsibility. One of Purina’s commitments is to provide the next generation of pet parents with expert information, advice and training on how to responsibly raise a pet. More than 3 million children in Europe have participated in empowerment programs to this end. In Romania, through the PURINA® Pet School educational project, which won the Gold Award in Romania in the Community Index 2020, more than 30,000 pupils from 58 schools in Bucharest and Prahova have so far benefited from information and activities on responsible pet parenting. The project is expanding nationwide this year so that more children have a better understanding of what it means to be a more responsible pet parent.

“In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have witnessed a significant increase in the number of pets as people are becoming increasingly aware of the benefits they can bring to their lives. This increasingly close relationship between pets and humans, as well as a continued growth in the local pet food market, empowers us and gives us a new perspective on our role in society. That’s why we continue to be actively involved in educational projects and even go one step further. One example is the Better Together project, started in 2023, through which Purina provides support, resources and advice to pet owners in Romania. This year,  four veterinarians (Dr. Rares Capitan, Dr. Raluca Zvorasteanu, Dr. Florin Leca and Dr. Gonçalo da Graça Pereira) joined in support of this initiative as part of the VetTalks project, through which the Purina community has access to video content with the best information on pet health. We believe that our partners, the veterinarians, are the most trusted source of nutritional knowledge for pet owners and together we want to contribute to a society where pet owners have all the information they need to make the best decisions for their four-legged friends”, says Diana Bejan, Business Executive Officer PURINA® Romania, Bulgaria, Adriatic, Nestlé.
