The US has confirmed the death of aid worker Kayla Mueller, who had been held hostage by Islamic State (IS) militants after being captured in Syria, the BBC reports.
Her family said they were “heartbroken” to learn the news.
President Barack Obama vowed to “bring to justice the terrorists who are responsible”. Mueller “represents what is best about America”, he said.
Last week, Islamic State said she had died in a Jordanian air strike, without providing proof.
