Arrest warrant maintained against Radu Mazare for contempt of court

The Supreme Court has decided to Friday to maintain the arrest warrant in absentia against former Constants mayor, Radu Mazare on the ground of contempt of court and because he has induced a feeling of weakness of the Romanian state.

The magistrates of the High Court of Cassation and Justice say that Mazare’s flee to Madagascar has represented  contempt of the court which has created a feeling of weakness of the state, as there are already similar cases.

Judges also argue that the former mayor of Constanta’s deeds are jeopardizing the public order, as the charges against him promote the idea of the weakness of the Romanian state.

Mazare has missed the court hearing early this year, as he had already fled to Madagascar and his lawyer could not provide an objective reason to justify his absence.
