Banca Transilvaniahas climbed almost 50 places in the Brand Finance Banking 500 2019 ranking published by The Banker on Monday. The survey points to a 39% increase for Banca Transilvania, the only Romanian brand in the Banking 500, which means a plus of USD 242 million. The bank’s rating has also increased from A+ to AA.
Banca Transilvania is accompanied by few banking brands from Central and Eastern Europe: six banks from Poland including PKO Bank Polski ranked 12th, the best ranked bank in CEE- and a bank from Czechia, Hungary and Slovakia.
“The remarkable rise of Banca Transilvania has come through organic growth and through strategic acquisitions (by recently announcing the Bancpost reinforcing), as well as through the focus on the SMEs sector, which is the most dynamic segment of the Romanian economy. In the nea future, it remains to be seen how the bank will counter the recent aggressive fiscal measures, launched by the Government in December 2018-which will negatively affect mainly the Romanian brands- and to what extent this bad environment will affect the progress made in the past years,” said Mihai Bogdan, Managing Director Brand Finance Romania.
The ranking also shows that China’s banks dominate top four spots of the ranking, led by ICBC as the world’s most valuable banking brand (US$79.8 billion), while all US banks, with the exception of Wells Fargo (-9%), Chase (-7%), and BankUnited (-6%), improve their brand value.
As for the German banks, they lose 24% of value, but Banca Mediolanum stands out as the fastest-growing brand in the world, up 82% year on year.
Sberbank of Russia claims the title of the world’s strongest banking brand, with a score of 93.1 out of 100 and an AAA+ rating.
