Banca Transilvania exits operational leasing market

Banca Transilvania Financial Group sold its Operational Leasing division – BT Operational Leasing – to Autonom rent-a-car company, a press release informs.

Through this deal, BT exits a field that was a secondary niche for its business, and Autonom gets to 500 employees, around 5,000 corporate clients and a 8,000-vehicle auto park.

Omer Tetik, CEO of Banca Transilvania, said: “We are glad to have grown the business in a difficult niche of operational leasing. BT Operational Leasing has become one of the main players on the local operational leasing and auto fleet management market. We trust that the business will be developed even better thanks to the skills at Autonom.”

On the other hand, Banca Transilvania and Autonom will set up a partnership through which BT clients will have access to an extended mobility service package, which includes operational leasing, fleet management, road assistance, auto rentals and rental of cars with drivers.

The transaction’s completion is estimated for this year, after it will get approval from the Competition Council.

BT Operational Leasing was founded in 2001 and became part of the Banca Transilvania Financial Group in 2006 after BT Investments acquired 51 percent of the company’s share capital.

Autonom is one of the main players in the car rental market in Romania. Founded in 2006, the company now has 45 centers in 35 cities in Romania, Hungary and Serbia. Autonom reached a turnover of EUR 27 million in 2017.
