A 52-year old woman and her 58-year old husband in Plaietu, Maneciu commune, Prahova County, have been attacked by a bear in their household, ISU Prahova representatives inform.
The woman was transported to the hospital with multiple excoriations on the right arm and left leg. The man has excoriations on his left thigh, but he has refused to be taken to the hospital.
According to witnesses, the bear attacked the animals in the household, the woman tried to chase away the bear but the animal attacked her. The man came to her rescue and hit the bear in the head with an axe. Following the wounds, the bear has died and representatives of the Prahova County Hunters and Sports Fishermen Association representatives were expected at the site.
In another development, another bear was killed on Thursday on the Sibiu-Deva highway, at the 257th kilometer, with two vehicles damaged. According to ‘Ora de Sibiu’, the animal was hit by a truck and then by a car. It seems the animal was heading for a nearby landfill.
It is the third bear killed on this highway in 2018. Local representatives say the bear could have crossed the highway through an underground tunnel, but he chose to climb a fence instead. However, representatives of the NGOs for nature claim the highway has no underground tunnels for bears, only wire fences.
