Bucharest City Hall will place a statue of Nelson Mandela in a square or park

The General Council of Bucharest has approved on Thursday the location of a statue of South African leader Nelson Mandela. The statue will be done after a contest.

“In 2018, South Africa commemorates the centenary since the birth of Nelson Mandela, on this occasion Bucharest intends to organize a contest for monumental works of art and urbanism solutions to personalize the revolutionary figure of Nelson Mandela,” an explanatory statement of the draft voted on Thursday by the General Council.

According to the Municipality, the work will be carried out following a contest for a statue or a monumental ensemble, to be located in a square or in a park in Bucharest.
