McDonald’s has invested over RON 700 million in Romania and will continue to develop partnerships with local suppliers, said Tuesday the general manager McDonald’s Romania, Daniel Boaje marking the 20th anniversary of the opening of the first McDonald’s restaurant in Romania.
According to him, about 30 percent of raw materials are produced in Romania.
„This year we have as a priority the opening of restaurants, but also the development of McCafe concept – now we have 14, but we will have 20 to year-end, and revamping restaurants. The investment level is comparable to that of last year, over RON 13 million, from company’s own sources, in McDonald’s Romania projects.
Many McCafes were opened in Bucharest and we want to make a significant step outside Capital. We have one in Ploiesti and we try to open the second in Craiova, then Timisoara and in Bucharest probably another three units.”, Boaje said.
McDonald’s has a team of over 4,000 employees here. Every day, over 150,000 visitors cross the restaurants’ threshold in Romania.
In 2015, the number of visits to McDonald’s restaurants increased by 7 percent to over 4.5 million customers per month. The company has 67 restaurants in 21 cities.
On June 16, 1995, McDonald’s opened its first restaurant in Romania, in the Union Square in Bucharest, being considered at that time a symbol of capitalism. On opening day, a team of 260 employees served over 15,000 customers, setting a record for the history of McDonald’s in Europe.
In 20 years the company has sold over 55 million Big Mac burgers and 350 million portions of potatoes.
