77% of board members, respondents in an EY survey, say they could justify unethical behaviour to help a business survive.

Despite sporadic progress in fighting bribery and corruption in Europe, Middle East, India and Africa (EMEIA), 51% of companies surveyed in the EY EMEIA Fraud Survey still perceive widespread practices of corruption in their countries.

In Romania, the share is 31%, down against 2015, when the figure was 39%.

27% of respondents stated that bribery is practiced often in their business sector in order to win contracts. The countries of origin of 14% of them are in Western Europe. The ‘Human instinct or logical machine – Which do you trust most in the fight against fraud and Corruption?’ report is based on a survey conducted among the 4,100 employees of large companies in 41 countries.

Representatives of Generation Y (aged 25 to 34), which is 32% of the respondents, shows a more relaxed attitude as compared to the unethical behaviours. 73% say that such behaviour is justified to help a business survive, as compared to 49% of the representatives of Generation X (aged 45-54).
