The sales of Romanian Dacia recorded an advance of 9.1 percent in Europe (EU plus EFTA), but the market share of the automaker fell to 2.7 percent from 2.8 percent in the same month of last year, according to the statistics of the European Automobile Manufacturers’ Association (ACEA) released on Wednesday.

Dacia car registrations in Europe amounted to 29,647 units last month, up from February 2015 (27,184 vehicles).

In the first two months of this year, deliveries of Dacia cars registered a growth of 4.2 percent in Europe, but the market share of the automaker fell to 2.8 percent from 2.9 percent in January – February 2015. Dacia car registrations in the region amounted to 60,390 units, an increase compared to the same period in 2015 (57,961 vehicles).

As regards the entire domestic auto market, this had a significant increase in the first two months of this year, the number of new car registrations increasing by 24.3 percent compared to the advance of 10.1 percent in Europe, same ACEA data reveal.

During January-February 2016, there were 10,899 cars sold in Romania, an increase compared to the same period of 2015 (8,768 vehicles). Romania has ranked the third in Europe, being surpassed only by Cyprus (47.2 percent) and Ireland (35.5 percent).

New car sales in the European Union rose 14 percent in February, helped in part by the extra sales day afforded by the leap year, though auto executives have cautioned that full-year growth will be more modest even as volumes head back toward precrisis levels.

Despite the robust showing in February and 10 percent growth through the first two months of the year, most auto executives are forecasting a more modest advance of about 2 percent to 3 percent for the entire year.
