Nicolae Robu, mayor of Timisoara, has big plans for the city he represents. According to local media, RON 137,000 from the City Hall budget was allocated this year for the pre-feasibility study on reconfiguring the railway route in Timisoara by introducing underground lines.
On the rail route between Gara de Nord and ‘Traian Vuia’ International Airport, on which the mayor is dreaming it, he has already set the stations.
However, considering how hard the things are moving in the infrastructure sector in Romania, the question is: when it will happen this miracle?!
Until then, it should be mentioned that this week, Metrorex marked 37 years since the inauguration of the first underground line in Bucharest.
The Bucharest underground is a project outlined by student Dimitrie Leonida in 1908, whose bachelor’s degree was the adaptation of such innovation for the capital city.
More than 35 percent of the total passengers travel daily by underground, one of the most modern underground networks in the world with over 600,000 thousand passengers daily.
The development of the Bucharest underground provides the commissioning in December of two stations on the ring road, Laminorului and Straulești, and in the second half of 2017 the inauguration of line 5 Drumul Taberei.
Metrorex management aims at reaching the level of use by more than 50 percent of the total number of passengers in Bucharest.
