ANT takes off famous travel agency from the licenses’ black list

After releasing list with the withdrawn licenses of 1,384 travel agencies who did not have a valid insurance policy on reimbursement of repatriation costs and on the amounts paid by tourists for purchasing services or travel packages, the National Tourism Authority (ANT) has revised the list.

Among the travel agencies on the preliminary list there were famous tour operators such as Christian Tour, Paralela 45, Perfect Tour, Eximtur, Kartago Tours, Paradis Vacanţe de Vis.

The most important travel agency erased from the list was Christian Tour after it had threatened to sue ANT. The agency’s owners warned they would take the authority to court if it didn’t revise the list.

Therefore, ANT released a new “black list” of the tour operators that lost their licenses, which contains now 1,238 names, 250 less than the first list.

At present, there are 2,490 licensed travel agencies and offices, according to the new data released by ANT on October 6.

According to the first ban, the economic operators in the list can no longer carry on business of travel agencies, according to the law, says the institution. The communiqué does not specify what will happen to tourists who have already purchased holidays.

An ANT press release states that it is banned under the law, “to conduct tourism activities specific to travel agencies by the economic operators with expired tourism license, or without having a valid insurance policy on the reimbursement of the costs of repatriation and/or on sums paid by tourists to purchase services/travel packages, in case of insolvency or bankruptcy of the travel agency.”
