Romanian low-cost carrier Blue Air recorded a 70 percent increase in passengers number, with a total of over 5 million in 2017, a press release informs.
For comparison, in 2015, the company transported only 2 million passengers.
The increase in passengers number was based on 104 regular flights and more than 700 charter flights, after the company inaugurated 33 new routes in 2017 as part of its expansion operations.
Last year, Blue Air also launched the Constanta base, which operated 506 flights to Rome, Brussels, Cluj-Napoca, Iasi, Oradea, Paris and Timisoara.
Among the new flights departing from Romania, Blue Air has launched routes from Iasi to Turin, Valencia or Munich, from Cluj-Napoca to London and Larnaca, and from Bucharest to Tel Aviv, Copenhagen and Helsinki.
Blue Air plans to become the first operator in Romania of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft after commissioning 12 aircrafts that will enter the company fleet as of the summer of 2019, according to the release.
“If in 2017 we focused on a strong investment in the fleet, in 2018 we will focus on strengthening our company internally and externally,” Gheorghe Racaru, General Manager of Blue Air stated.
