PM Viorica Dăncilă has announced on Sunday in Ploiesti that Comarnic-Brasov highway would not be made through public-private partnership anymore, but would be declared a project of national importance and would be made with government funds.

The Comarnic-Brasov highway is currently under public-private partnership. We had requests from a Chinese-Turkish consortium. I have though decided together with my colleagues to take it out from the public-private status, and to declare it a project of national importance in the first CSAT meeting so that we can start works as soon as possible“, Dancila said.

The premier argued that procedures are complicated and, in order to overcome all obstacles, including the “institution of appeals”, the best solution is that the highway should become project of national importance and to be made with government funds.

At the end of 2018, the prime minister Viorica Dancila said that a realistic deadline to conclude the Comarnic-Brasov highway is 2024, as the winning contractor is to be designated in early 2019.

Last summer, the Romanian Government dropped out the deal with the World Bank (WB) for the completion of the Comarnic-Brasov highway section, arguing that the source of financing in a project is not relevant, and decided it should be made by public-private partnership.
