Employers are starting to become more and more concerned with the adaptation of the people in the company to the changes in the labor market, in the context where the permanent development of technology seems to turn into a real obstacle for more and more employees and candidates.

Thus, according to the most recent survey carried out by eJobs.ro, 67.6% of employers answered that the main challenge they face in adapting employees to the new market requirements is related to the fact that they are not flexible enough and do not want to they understand that the job market is changing at a very fast pace. 58.8% are dissatisfied because employees and candidates are not willing to learn new things, and 45.6% say they do not have enough digital knowledge. 33.8% assess that they are not creative, and 22.1% add to the same list the fact that employees and candidates are not familiar with artificial intelligence tools, but also that they have difficulties working in an environment with international exposure.

“On this background, three quarters of employers participating in the survey answered that the continuous development of employees is very important in the company they belong to. 9.9% think it is important, but it is not a priority and just as many that, although it is very important, they do not have a budget allocated for this purpose. In the case of those who have a dedicated budget, the training and professional training programs are included in the extra-salary benefits packages”, says Raluca Dumitra, Head of Marketing, within eJobs.ro.

When asked about the skills they believe will be most in demand over the next five years, 62.7% prioritized digital skills. Additionally, 54.7% highlighted technical aspects related to job descriptions, while 49% included in their top three the importance of behavior, attitude, adaptability, and compatibility with both the job and the company. Furthermore, 29.3% believe that understanding and using artificial intelligence tools at an advanced level will be crucial, and 24% stated that employees will need to be proficient in at least one foreign language.

Employers recognize that continuous professional development programs for employees are essential primarily for increasing team productivity, helping employees adapt to technology and industry innovations, and serving as a valuable tool for talent retention. In this context, 47% of respondents indicated that most employees in their companies participate annually in various training courses or professional development programs tailored to individual needs and specializations. However, there are also cases (15.2%) where these investments primarily target the development of employees in departments related to the company’s core business, or that focus solely on upskilling key talents (7.6%).

“It is particularly interesting that, while there seemed to be a shifting of responsibility between employees and employers regarding financial support for professional development programs, companies are taking on the role of ‘investor.’ In this regard, 66% of respondents agree that the employer should cover the costs of employee development programs, including participation in internal training, external courses, mentoring and coaching programs, or attendance at relevant conferences,” explains Raluca Dumitra.

The survey was conducted in September, with a sample of 400 respondents from the employer category—HR specialists, HR managers, team leaders, and entrepreneurs.
