E.ON Energie Romania has become a green energy producer following the completion of a photovoltaic power plant for Webasto’s factory in Arad, under a long-term Power Purchase Agreement (PPA).
Through this €1 million project—developed, implemented, financed, and operated by E.ON Energie România—the entire amount of renewable energy produced, approximately 1,530.51 MWh per year, will be sold to Webasto over a 15-year period at a fixed price with annual indexation.
Webasto, a major global supplier of systems for the automotive industry, consistently focuses on sustainability and actively contributes to the energy transition in manufacturing.
“We aim to expand our Power Purchase Agreement (PPA) portfolio, and the partnership with Webasto is a first step in this direction. Through this and future collaborations, we continue our commitment to supporting our partners in their journey toward greater sustainability by using more green energy and adding value to their businesses by reducing exposure to energy market price volatility,” stated Claudia Griech, General Manager of E.ON Energie România.
“The PPA concept is perfectly aligned with Webasto Romania’s sustainability objectives. The commitment to a fixed price for green energy over a long period provides us with a solid planning foundation and helps us align with the company’s values,” said Koehler Philipp, Director of Webasto Romania.
The project involved constructing a photovoltaic system consisting of 3,360 modules of 460 W within Webasto’s facility in Zimandu Nou, Arad County, with a total capacity of 1,545.60 kWp. The solar power plant brings multiple benefits to Webasto Romania, covering 23% of its annual electricity needs and reducing CO2 emissions by approximately 467.74 tons per year.
In the non-residential sector, E.ON Energie România’s photovoltaic generation portfolio currently includes over 392 completed projects, with a total investment of €74 million. The total photovoltaic energy production exceeds 104 GWh per year, reducing CO2 emissions by approximately 23,000 tons annually.
