New natural gas deposit found in Dolj; OMV Petrom plans big 2025 investment

A new natural gas deposit has been discovered in Dolj, at Spineni (70 km from Craiova), by OMV Petrom. The company plans to invest 5.8 billion lei this year in onshore operations and the advancement of the offshore Neptun Deep project, Biziday reports.

According to OMV Petrom, the natural gas deposit is located in Spineni, about 70 km northeast of Craiova. “The exploration well 1 Spineni, drilled to a depth of approximately 4,800 meters, confirmed the presence of natural gas and condensate, with results supported by production tests. Tests at the discovery well indicate a production potential of 180,000 m³ of natural gas and 25 m³ of condensate per day, totaling 1,300 boe/day,” the company explained. The tests confirmed the discovery is commercial, and the next step is approval of the development plan.

“In 2025, we aim to invest 5.8 billion lei in Exploration and Production, with nearly half of this amount allocated to onshore operations – alongside advancing Neptun Deep offshore, a strategic project involving significant investments. We continue to invest to offset the natural decline in production from mature fields and to explore new opportunities near our existing operations,” said Cristian Hubati, Member of the OMV Petrom Directorate responsible for Exploration and Production.

For this onshore project, OMV Petrom invested approximately 15 million euros during the exploration phase.
