OMV Petrom oil company plans to develop a gigantic photovoltaic project, a 710 MW photovoltaic park, which is to be ready in two years.
The Theia project is the name of the solar project that Petrom will develop in the south of Romania, in Teleorman county. It is about 710 MW that will be located in Teleorman county, Băbăita commune, 20 km north of the county seat city, Alexandria, and 90 km from Bucharest.

The project will be divided into lots. The first batch refers to a capacity of 242 MWp with a 33/110 kV substation, the second to 219 MWp, and the third to 247 MWp, each with the related power station, also 33/110 kV. The fourth lot consists of the construction of the 110 KV underground networks (58 km in total), the large 110/440 kV transformer station and a 600 meter 400 kV line through which the park will be connected to the 400 kV line Slatina Bucharest of Transelectrica.

Petrom estimates that it will finish the park in two years from the moment the contracts are awarded, and the companies that want it must submit their expressions of interest by April 18. Afterwards, there will be a negotiation procedure based on the technical and financial offers with the selected candidates.
The project is estimated at EUR 400 million.
The company announced last summer that it had signed an agreement for the purchase of several projects for the construction of photovoltaic parks in Teleorman county, developed by the Danish company Jantzen Renewables ApS. Completion of the transaction is estimated for the second quarter of this year, when the projects will reach the “ready-to-build” stage, Petrom said at the time. The photovoltaic parks will be among the largest projects of this type in Southeast Europe, being able to supply the equivalent of the annual consumption of about 280,000 households in Romania, the company said.
