Giggle, the groundbreaking digital solution that radically transforms how employers and workers collaborate on temporary tasks, has officially launched in Romania. The app introduces a new level of job flexibility, allowing companies to temporarily collaborate with personnel for specific tasks, reducing both employee costs and recruitment time. For gig workers, Giggle offers increased job opportunities and diversified income sources, enhancing financial independence. In Hungary, over 70,000 daily jobs have been filled through the platform. Within just two months of expanding operations to Romania, Giggle has already attracted over 7,000 workers and 40 partner employers, proving itself as the ideal solution for the challenges of today’s labor market.
From the Gig Economy to Giggle
Giggle emerged in response to the rise of the gig economy. This concept has gained popularity in Southeastern Europe with the emergence of platforms like Bolt, Uber, Fiverr, and Upwork. The relatively high unemployment rate and lower labor costs in the region have made gig jobs an attractive option, especially for young people. Cities like Bucharest, Belgrade, and Sofia have become major hubs for ride-sharing and food delivery services, offering thousands of flexible job opportunities. The COVID-19 pandemic further accelerated this trend, supported by digital transformation initiatives promoted across the European Union. The number of workers in this sector across EU member states is projected to reach 43 million, up from 28.3 million in 2022.
The Pandemic Changed How Companies Plan Their Workforce Needs
After the pandemic, companies in industries such as HoReCa, logistics, retail, and delivery faced significant challenges in planning and managing their workforce needs. Fluctuations in demand and financial instability made it nearly impossible to accurately forecast hiring needs. Giggle enables the fragmentation of tasks—breaking work into smaller, manageable shifts that are then posted on the platform, making these job opportunities accessible to a wider audience. This helps create liquidity in the labor market, giving employers the ability to quickly find the workforce they need. Giggle is particularly well-suited for blue-collar jobs and other roles that do not require extensive training.
Giggle: A “Tinder” for Jobs
All a company needs to do is post a temporary job or a single shift that needs coverage, and workers can instantly view all relevant details: job title, employer, pay, schedule, and location. Interested workers can apply directly through the platform, and employers have access to complete worker profiles, allowing them to select the best-fit candidates.
Once a worker completes their first shift, the employer can provide a one-to-five-star rating and written feedback. This rating system not only builds trust but also simplifies future selections. Giggle also conducts preliminary checks and interviews with users who want to apply for jobs, recommending suitable roles based on their skills. This significantly reduces both hiring time and costs for companies.
“We believe that everyone deserves the chance to work in a way that best fits their life circumstances—whether they are students, people working alongside a full-time job, or those who rely on gig work as their primary income source. Our mission is to offer people more options and flexibility in their work, helping them thrive, grow personally, or achieve their dreams. Giggle’s goal is to revolutionize the labor market by creating opportunities that allow employers to meet their workforce needs flexibly while workers can earn additional income without committing to long-term employment,” said Sebestyén Ádám, co-founder of Giggle.
The idea behind Giggle materialized in May 2022, with the first web version of the platform launching in December 2022. The mobile app version followed in October 2023. By November 2024, Giggle had reached 100,000 gig workers and 2,000 partner companies in Hungary. To date, over 70,000 temporary jobs have been filled through the platform.
Waiters, Hostesses, and Warehouse Workers: The Most In-Demand Jobs in Romania
Giggle’s founders chose to expand to Romania due to market similarities with Hungary, both in terms of workforce needs and labor regulations. The platform primarily targets three key industries: HoReCa, logistics, and retail. Currently, over 7,000 workers and 40 partner employers are registered on Giggle in Romania.
Two key trends have emerged: Romanian gig workers tend to apply for jobs that closely match their skills, and they prefer to apply for jobs they have previously worked in. The most in-demand jobs on the platform include waiters, hostesses, and warehouse workers.
