ANCOM: Over 8.83 million Internet connections affected by security incidents in 2014, down by 50 pc

Over 8.83 million internet connections in Romania were affected by security incidents in 2014, by 50% less than in the previous year, the special report published on Thursday by the National Authority for Management and Regulation in Communications (ANCOM) reveals.

Most incidents were reported in Bucharest, Constanta, Dolj and Teleorman counties.

Out of the connections affected by incidents (8,836,821), most were registered in the mobile segment (nearly 4.4 million connections), followed by mobile Internet services (almost 3 million connections), retransmission of audiovisual programs (about 840,000) and ground telephony (about 440,000 connections) and ground Internet (about 340,000 affected connections/service).

According to the report, 359 incidents have had a significant impact in 2014 on the security and integrity of electronic communications networks and services, the total number of connections affected being by more than 50% lower than that reported in 2013.
