MedLife expands to Hungary, buys controlling stake in Rózsakert Medical Center

MedLife, Romania’s largest private medical services provider, has announced its first international transaction: the purchase of the controlling stake of 51% in Rózsakert Medical Center from Hungary, which is among the top ten private medical providers in the neighbouring country.

Rózsakert Medical Center has been set up in 2011 by doctor Gyula Csermely, and obstetrician, and currently has over 250 doctors and nurses.

It is the first action of a Romanian company in the private healthcare outside Romania and we are proud that MedLife is breaking the borders and carries on the Romanian capital. Hungary has an interesting, booming private medical market. I think that through our expansion know how and through our good networking with the shareholders, we’ll manage to develop a solid long-term partnership. Investments alloted for this stage mount to EUR 4-5 million, and we’ll analyse further expansion opportunities in the upcoming period,” said Mihai Marcu, CEO and President MedLife Group, as quoted by

The MedLife CEO also said that in 2019 the group will focus on digitisation, on national second opinion and on developing centres of excellence in those 10 hospitals in Romania, to comprise more specialties such as neurosurgery, cardiac surgery, abdominal wall surgery, gynecology and sports trauma.
