The Competition Council (CC) issued fines worth EUR 40 million in 2014, twofold as against 2013, said on Friday Bogdan Chiritoiu, the institution’s head while in Alba Iulia. He said the highest penalty imposed in 2014 for anti-competitive practices was given to food retail chains, but there was a “substantial fine” given to advertising companies as well. “A big fine, of some EUR 3 million, was imposed against several companies that have agreed to fake tenders for Romgaz,” Chiritoiu said.

Chritoiu also said most of the fines are challenged after the culprits receive the motivations. He added the CC encourages the companies to admit their offences, in this case they get a reduced fine.
