The Continental company celebrates 150 years of existence this year, and the tire factory in Timișoara marks the event with a double inauguration: the launch of the olfactory emissions treatment system, RTO (Regenerative Thermal Oxidation) and the opening of the new vocational training center.
Announced in December 2020, the investment in the new RTO equipment has been completed and is now operational. Part of the company’s sustainable development strategy and sustainability policy, Continental Anvelope Timișoara has invested approximately 3.3 million euros in the new olfactory emissions treatment system, which disintegrates volatile organic compounds (the molecules responsible for most odors) that they occur in the production process of tires by oxidizing them at high temperatures. The system has five combustion chambers and the capacity to treat approximately 120,000 cubic meters of air per hour. This new equipment will replace the system installed in 2015.
The second important point of interest of the company goes in the direction of developing employees’ skills. The training center is part of the company’s strategy to invest in its employees and their performance, thus consolidating its position as a top employer and active member of the community. The vocational training center is equipped with technology specific to each production area: Induction, Computer Training, Human Resources, Digital Service Training. The investment is approximately € 150,000.
During 1999-2020, Continental invested about 2 billion euros in activities in Romania. All 5 areas of activity of the company are represented in Romania. Continental owns seven production units and four engineering centers in Timisoara, Sibiu, Carei, Nădab, Brașov and Iaşi. The company is a partner in a joint venture in Iasi and has a tire distribution center in Bucharest. At the end of 2020, Continental had more than 20,100 employees, of which more than a third were engineers and computer scientists.
