Continental Automotive Timisoara to be led by Romanian GM as of August 1

Continental Timisoara, part of German Continental Corporation – one of the top automotive suppliers worldwide, appoints Sorin Samonid, 47, as its new General Manager, starting August 1, a press release informs on Wednesday.

He is replacing German Klaus Ohlwein, who was named director of Continental Tires Industrial Engineering department in Hanovra.

Samonid, graduate of the Politehnica University Timisoara, has been working in the tire division of Continental group for 15 years, since the company started operations in Romania in 2000.

Before occupying this position, from 2013 to now, he has been production manager at the Continental plant in Mount Vernon, U.S. Previously, Sorin Samonid oversaw the tires production in the Continental plant in Timisoara.

The German group has invested over EUR 370 million in its tire factory throughout 15 years of activity in Romania and created around 2,300 jobs. The investments focused on top technology, environmental protection and social responsibility. Continental Automotive Timisoara has delivered more than 150 million tires to customers worldwide so far.
