Jato Dynamics: Dacia Duster, Europe’s best-selling B-class SUV in January

Dacia Duster has become Europe’s best-selling B class in January, the launch of the new generation being a plus for the Romanian brand. Duster has surpassed Opel Mokka, the closest rival, and Renault Captur, the segment leader.

According to Jato Dynamics data, Dacia Duster has registered more than 15,000 units in January in Europe in its first month of presence on the market since entry into production.

The car manufactured at Mioveni factory managed to grow by 45 percent compared to last year, one of the biggest increases in the European car market. Duster climbed to 17th place in the best-selling cars top in the EU, while Sandero ranks the 13, with 16,400 units, up by 10 percent year-on-year.

In sub-compact SUVs top, Dacia Duster ranked first in January, ahead of Renault Captur, the crossover that led last year’s ranking and has been in the preferences of the European public for a long time. Captur registered 14,333 units, 9 percent more.

Opel Mokka ranked third and has registered 13,693 units, up by 2 percent.

In the ranking of all SUVs, VW Tiguan ranked first, surpassing Nissan Qashqai. However, the VW fell 6 percent compared to January 2017, while the Nissan model increased 7 percent. On third place was Peugeot 3008, the highest-growth model in the ranking – 63 percent and 16,895 registered vehicles in January. Dacia Duster ranks now fourth in the top of the SUVs in all segments.

Dacia brand registered 41,500 vehicles in January, 20 percent more than last year, being on the 16th place in Europe in the first month of 2018.

Europe’s largest markets all posted an increase in registrations, with the exception of the UK. Germany maintained its dominance as Europe’s largest market with nearly 270,000 registrations, however, Spain recorded a larger increase of 22.7 percent, compared to Germany’s 11.6 percent.

Of the 27 markets analysed it was the Eastern European region that registered the most growth, with Romania recording the largest year on year growth, with a significant 66.4 percent increase, followed by Slovakia at 47 percent and Hungary at 38.6 percent.
