Danone Romania has posted positive financial results for 2017, the company has announced on Tuesday, thus enabling it to continue local investments this year. The turnover has mounted to RON 497 million, increasing by 3% as against 2016.
The company’s representatives say the positive evolution in the past years is due to the focus on the yogurt segment and thus Danone maintains the leadership on the local yogurt market.
„The results Danone has in Romania will enable the sustainable development of the brand and new local investments, in our factory in Bucharest, in social projects and in the development of the yogurt category. During 2017-2018 we are investing about EUR 1 M in developing two new lines of production and in introducing a new pallet operation pallet in the factory (…) A similar sum of EUR 1 M is invested to support the development of our partner farmers, both family farms and professional farms,” said Natalia Gelstein Kiss, General Manager Danone Romania, Bulgaria, R. Moldova and Adriatic countries.
Over 1 million yogurt are produced in the Bucharest factory on a daily basis, annually using over 60 million liters of milk.
Yet, the yogurt consumption in Romania remains low compared with other countries. A person in Romania eats 6.6 kg of yogurt per year, compared to 23 kg in Bulgaria, over 10 kg in the Czech Republic and 21 kg in Sweden.
