A Paykan Hillman-Hunter (Chrysler) limousine 1974 model which belonged to Romanian former dictator Nicolae Ceausescu (left) is put up for sale on an Artmark auction dedicated to Christmas holiday which will take place on December 9. The starting price is EUR 4,000. Ceausescu’s limousine was a gift from the Shah of Iran Mohammad Reza Pahlavi (right), on the occasion of his election as President of the Socialist Republic of Romania (RSR).

The car was designed to catch a top speed of 145 km/h. Also, the limousine has a four-cylinder engine, 54 hp, manual transmission, 4-speed and 924 kg. According to the organizers of the auction, the car is in excellent condition and runs on the road.

The Paykan (‚arrow’ in Persian) was an automobile produced by the Iranian company Iran Khodro (formerly called “Iran National”) Industrial Group. The car was very popular in Iran from the late 1960s to the late ’90s. It is often referred as the Iranian “chariot”. The Paykan design was based on the 1967 Hillman Hunter (also known as ‚rootes arrow’), which was originally designed and manufactured by the British Rootes Group.
