Besides State Grid Corporation of China, that had expressed an interest in Enel’s Romania distribution and generation assets, it seems that the world’s largest utility by revenues has competition. Two major energy groups, E.ON, GdF Suez, turn their attention too, sources told for economica.net

“Gaz de France Suez plans to take over the distribution of Banat and Muntenia Sud region, covering Romanian capital, Bucharest, and E.ON is negotiating the purchase of Banat distribution,” sources said.

Both companies are active on the domestic energy market. GdF Suez has one of the two gas distribution unit in Romania and E.ON, the other gas distribution and supply electricity unit from Moldova area.

Italian group Enel plans to finalize the sale of its assets in Romania and Slovakia by the end of this November. In Romania, Enel announced in June it wants to sell 64.4 percent in Enel Distributie Muntenia and Enel Energie Muntenia, 51percent of Enel Distributie Banat, Enel Distributie Dobrogea and Enel Energie, as well as the services company Enel Romania. In Romania, Enel has 2.6 million clients, out of which 2.4 million are individual consumers. Its companies posted EUR 1.12 billion in turnover in 2013, and a pre-tax profit of EUR 289 million.
