The European Commission has decided to grant compensation of almost 30 million euros for Romanian farmers affected by grain imports from Ukraine, announced the Minister of Agriculture, Petre Daea, in an intervention on Digi 24. More specifically, Romania will receive compensation for farmers in the amount of 29.7 million euros.

“Today we received the draft regulation of the European Union. It’s the first time I’ve laid hands on a document that says the exact figure. I was saying that the amount, in the first phase, is a small amount and I requested the change of the calculation formula. Today we have the communication that we are the beneficiaries of 29,730,000 euros, a much more important amount and I say correct from the point of view of the calculations, which on the one hand gives real support to Romanian farmers”, said Petre Daea .

The Minister of Agriculture said that the amount of 30 million is “extra”, in addition to the 20 (million) received so far”. “There are 50 (millions of euros – n.r.) up to this date. We are ready with the normative act. When the amount will appear in the Official Journal, then we will release the normative act, so that the money reaches the farmers as quickly as possible”.

At the same time, Daea confirmed that the sum of 30 million euros will be “doubled” from the state budget, as PSD leader Marcel Ciolacu had previously announced. “It is important that we have the legal basis and we also have this amount from the European Union, almost 30 million euros. An amount that I say is correct established for Romanian farmers and, from this point of view, here we have the decision-making comfort to be able to come with the support to the farmers”, he added.

The Agriculture minister also said that the situation of corn, sunflower and rape stocks will be requested and that an analysis will be carried out in this regard.

Initially, the European Commission decided, in March, to grant compensation worth 10 million euros for Romania, an amount considered “ridiculous” by the Romanian Ministry of Agriculture. At the same time, the European Commission authorized Romania to double this amount through state aid.
