EUR 6.5 M investment at ArcelorMittal Galati in a major crane

ArcelorMittal, world’s leading steel and mining company, continues the investments in its Galati unit. Thus, ArcelorMittal Galati started the operations for installing a major overhead crane which will serve for transporting the liquid steel to the casting machines.

“This project, amounting EUR 6.5 million is embedded in a multi-annual EUR 60 million investment plan for modernizing the Galati Steel Melting Shop, with the aim of increasing the productivity and quality”, Bruno Ribo, Chief Executive Officer of ArcelorMittal Galati and Skopje stated, according to a press release.

For putting in position a caterpillar crane with a 600 tons lifting capacity was used, the biggest of its kind in Romania, and the roof of the Steel Shop was dismantled in order to install the new equipment.

The new crane, weighting 416 tons, can lift – in full safety – 300 tons of liquid steel in covered ladles. The project also covers the complete repair of the bay girders and beams, the replacement of the contact line and railway, a new electrical room and industrial construction works, the release reads.

The new equipment will be capable to tilt the ladles in the same operation step, with a positive impact in productivity.

EUR 400 million has been invested in the Galati unit since 2009, according to Lakshmi Mittal, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of ArcelorMittal, the leading steel company marking in 2016 50 years of history of the plant.

After almost 15 years of journalism, I still want to explore new ways, to inform and stay updated. That’s why The Romania Journal project fits me so well.
Today I describe myself as a passionate about the history of world culture, having a PhD in Hebrew Culture and Civilization, after a scholarship at the University of Haifa International School, as a language addict, an environmental activist, pet lover and traveler.
