2017 will be the next 2010. High irresponsibility on behalf of politicians, former President Traian Basescu says
Former President Traian Basescu has bleak outlook regarding Romania’s economic future, anticipating another profound crisis. In his anticipations for B1 TV, Basescu said he believes the new Tax Code will be voted by parliament and promulgated by President Klaus Iohannis, but because politicians are irresponsible we risk having 2017 as a new 2010, with profound crisis.
“I believe the new Tax Code will pass and Iohannis will promulgate it. There is zero fiscal-budgetary responsibility on behalf of politicians, including the issue of salaries for dignitaries, special pensions; although those people did not contribute to the pensions’ fund, so this is theft. I believe irresponsibility regarding macro-economic stability is at maximum,” Basescu said.
“I believe this year is the equivalent of 2007 with Tariceanu as PM, while I’m looking at all the electoral gifts. The new Tax Code is similar to 2008 with Tariceanu. I do my duty to warn that 2017 will be 2010, the year of profound crisis, a country economically unstable and with a high current account deficit,” the former head of state said.
He blamed the Liberals for their vote in parliament in favour of the Tax Code, and their attempt to wash their hands seems ridiculous.
“Romanians are glad Ponta is increasing minimum salary, is increasing the pensions – the special pensions. I believe all these are unsustainable, forcing economic growth by stimulating consumption – this is unsustainable. We’ll find ourselves overnight in a deep pit. If the new Tax Code is promulgated, 2017 will be the same as 2010,” Traian Basescu said.
