After the first 10 months of 2015, the number of active mandatory home insurance policies (PAD) increased by 45,000 to 1,536,329, so that at the end of October this year, 18.07 percent of the 8.5 million homes in Romania had compulsory insurance, the statistics of Pool of Insurance against Natural Disasters (PAID) show, the institution authorized to issue this type of insurance.
Late last year, there were 1,491,329 active PAD policies, while in October 2014 were 1,542,040 active policies.
According to PAID, 74.2 percent of active policies at the national level were concluded in urban areas and 25.8 percent, in rural areas. Depending on the type of housing, 90.6 percent of PAD policies are concluded for housing type A (building with strength structure of reinforced concrete, metal or wood or with exterior walls made of stone, burnt brick or any materials resulting from heat or chemical treatment) and 9.4 percent for housing type B (building with exterior walls of brick or any other material not subject to heat or chemical treatment).
By region, the most active policies are in Bucharest (20 percent of total), Muntenia (19 percent) and Transylvania (17 percent) and the least – in Maramures (2 percent of total policies), Bucovina (3 percent) and Crisana (4 percent).
