Enache Jiru, likely to replace Radu Ghetea in CEC Bank executive management
Enache Jiru (photo) currently State Secretary with the Finance Ministry, was nominated by CEC Bank main shareholder – the Ministry of Public Finance (MFP) – to take over the current executive management office currently hold by Radu Gratian Ghetea, hotnews.ro informs. Jiru needs toobtain the National Bank’s approval to officially get the office of General Manager – Chairman of the Board of Directors. Ghetea, one of the local bankers with the longest career (44 years), will allegedly remain Chairman of the CEC Bank Board of Directors. Ghetea, considered a close friend of BNR Governor Mugur Isarescu, resisted several attempts to replace him both from the CEC Bank and as chief of the Romanian Banks Association (ARB).
The most recent attempt to change Ghetea took place in 2013, when the Finance Ministry was led by Liberal Daniel Chitoiu. He admitted at the time that former President Traian Basescu has called him not to replace Radu Ghetea.
We remind our readers that Radu Ghetea is the head of the bank who granted a controversial loan to Ioana Basescu, the elder daughter of former President Traian Basescu, the money being used to buy a plot of 290 hectares in Calarasi County. The loan was secured by existing and future balances of an account opened with CEC Bank and by the purchased agricultural land.
