A team of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) led by Jan Kees Martijn will visit Bucharest between September 25 and October 4, 2023, for consultations based on Article IV of the Fund’s Statute, the institution’s officials reported on Monday.

“Such consultations are periodically undertaken with all IMF member states,” the statement states.

The IMF team will discuss economic developments and policies with the Romanian authorities, meeting with officials from the Ministry of Finance, the National Bank of Romania and other government agencies, as well as representatives of the private sector and non-governmental organizations. At the end of the visit, the mission could hold a press conference.

The procedure is that when things are going normally, the conference will take place, but if there are controversies, the Fund’s mission will be completed with a press release, without press conferences.
