An amendment to the Tax Code adopted by Parliament could lead to cheaper beer, but only that the draft, ProTV informs.
A draft Government Emergency Ordinance amending and supplementing the Tax Code was voted on Wednesday by the Chamber of Deputies, after receiving the OK from the Senate. The project relates to the VAT cut to 9% to various foods and beverages, including draft beer.
The amendment was proposed by MP Adrian Merka from the Committee on Budget, Finance and Banks of the Chamber of Deputies and refers to ‘beer under NC code 22 03 00 10’, the cited source informs.
The government wanted to reduce the VAT to 9% also for alcoholic products non-subject to excising, namely wine and beer, but the Ministry of Finance presented to Prime Minister Victor Ponta an EU directive banning the measure in April.
