Trade deficit up to EUR 1.26bn in January

The trade deficit (FOB/CIF) climbed to EUR 1.26 billion in January, up by EUR 481.9 million against January 2018, according to the figures released by the National Statistics Institute (INS) on Tuesday.

In January 2019, the FOB exports amounted to EUR 5.510 billion and the CIF imports amounted to EUR 6.770 billion. As compared to January 2018, the exports in the first month of this year increased by 1.6% and imports increased by 9.2%.

The value of intra-EU 28 trade of goods in January 2019 was of EUR 4.336 billion for shipments and EUR 5.024 billion for imports, accounting for 78.7% of total exports and 74.2% of total imports.

The value of extra-EU 28 trade of goods in January 2019 was of EUR 1,175 billion for exports and EUR 1,746 billion for imports, representing 21,3% of total exports and 25,8% of total imports.
