Unemployment up to 5.46 pc by end-January

The unemployment rate was 5.46 percent at end-January, up 0.17 percent from December, a release issued on Wednesday of the National Employment Agency (ANOFM) informs.

The unemployment in January was, however, down 0.39 percent year-on-year.

Most unemployed people — 97,102 — were unskilled agricultural workers.

The absolute figure at end-January was 493,415 unemployed individuals, up 15,077 from end-December. By gender, the unemployment rate went up from 5.78 percent to 6 percent among women, and from 4.73 percent to 4.84 percent among women, ANOFM data showed.

By age groups, the latest data are 71,678 unemployed under 25 years old, 41,209 between 25 and 29 y.o.y, 107,762 between 30 and 39, 137,211 between 40 and 49, 63,608 between 50 and 55, and 71,947 older than 55.
