Forbes: Ion Tiriac remains the only billionaire in Romania
79-year-old tycoon Ion Ţiriac has an estimated fortune of USD 1.2 billion, ranking 1, 818th among the world’s billionaires, according to the Forbest 2019 ranking.
The Romanian businessman has climbed 49 positions as against last year, despite the value of his fortune remained the same.
The former tennis player has businesses in real estate, oil and insurances, having a minority, but major shareholding in Allianz-Tiriac.
Ţiriac has reached the Forbes ranking for the first time in 2007, boasting a fortune of USD 1.1 bln. Next year, he was up to USD 1.2 bln.
Amid the economic crisis that followed, the Romanian tycoon was out of the billionaires ranking in 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013 and 2014. For three years (2010, 2015 and 2016) his wealth was estimated at around USD 1 billion and he climbed up to USD 1.1 bln in 2017.
