US carmaker Ford today celebrates 10 years of activity in Craiova. More specifically, it’s about the official moment when Ford Motor Company took over the majority shareholding held by the Romanian Government at Automobile Craiova, as a press release informs.
Since acquiring the Craiova facility in 2008, Ford has invested more than EUR 1.2 billion in its Romanian manufacturing operations, the factory in Dolj county becoming one of the most technologically advanced manufacturing units worldwide.
“In this decade, we have not only produced excellent engines and cars, but we have significantly increased the number of our employees and almost doubled our investment in Romania,” John Oldham, Ford Romania President says.
In 2008, Ford began its work in Romania with 3,589 employees. To accommodate production requirements and high demand for the new EcoSport, Ford hired 1,800 people in Craiova in 2017, totaling 4,492 today.
”With the launch of the new EcoSport at the Craiova plant, Ford expects 2018 to be the best in the last ten years in terms of production volumes,” the release reads.
According to Automotive Manufacturers and Importers Association (APIA), 11,074 Ford EcoSports were manufactured at the Craiova plant in January 2018.
